Phuong Huynh

RD MS

Dietitian
Amateur cook and weekend gardener

Phuong Huynh is a dietitian who provides specialized nutrition therapy to high-risk newborns in need of intestinal rehabilitation, providing care throughout childhood. She cares for babies and children with intestinal failure and short bowel syndrome. Intestinal failure is a condition in which the gut is unable to absorb necessary water, nutrients and electrolytes sufficient to sustain life, requiring intravenous supplementation or replacement. Short bowel syndrome is a condition in which part of the small intestine is missing or was surgically removed because another disorder caused intestinal damage.

Huynh also provides medical nutrition therapy for the premature infants in the neonatal intensive care unit and lactation support for nursing mothers of premature babies. For all her patients, she collaborates with practitioners in other disciplines, including occupational therapists, speech therapists and social workers, to develop treatment plans tailored to individual needs. In addition to patient care, she provides nutrition education to medical residents, nurses and dietitians in training.

After earning a bachelor's degree in nutritional sciences at the University of Texas at Austin, Huynh earned a master's degree in nutrition at Texas Woman's University.

In her free time, Huynh enjoys working on all kinds of do-it-yourself projects.
