Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia (HHT) Center
The Pediatric Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia (HHT) Center is the only clinic in Northern California that specializes in caring for patients with HHT, a genetic disorder that causes blood vessels to develop abnormally. We have been designated a Center of Excellence by Cure HHT, the leading organization for HHT research funding, education and patient advocacy.
HHT can affect blood vessels in many parts of the body from the skin to the liver to the brain, so our care team is made up of many different medical specialists. Depending on the symptoms, your child may be seen by experts in interventional and neurointerventional radiology, pediatrics, medical genetics, hematology, otolaryngology – head and neck surgery, cardiology, dermatology, gastroenterology, neurology, neurological surgery or pulmonology.
We trace each patient's family history of HHT and work closely with referring doctors to develop a treatment plan to address the child's symptoms and complications of HHT. We offer advanced screening and diagnostic tests for serious complications, such as arteriovenous malformations, abnormal tangles of arteries and veins in the brain. We are able to treat many complications through minimally invasive surgery.
Our clinic is associated with the Center for Cerebrovascular Research (CCR), which focuses on vascular malformations of the brain. CCR has a special interest in HHT, one of the few inherited causes of arteriovenous malformations. The neurointerventional radiologists on our team pioneered many of the procedures and devices used to treat arteriovenous malformations.
