Fetal Cardiovascular Program

At UCSF, some of our smallest patients are still in the womb. Our Fetal Cardiovascular Program evaluates the health of unborn babies' hearts, and if issues are identified, we design treatment plans that might be needed after birth – or even before.

A partnership between the UCSF Pediatric Heart Center and the UCSF Fetal Treatment Center, our full-service fetal cardiac diagnosis program is one of the largest in Northern California, using the latest imaging technologies to provide an unparalleled level of accuracy. Our team performs urgent and elective fetal imaging as early as 12 weeks of pregnancy to screen for and diagnose a wide range of structural, functional and rhythm-related heart disorders. Depending on what we find, we manage your care or coordinate the next steps with other fetal and pediatric heart specialists at UCSF.

We understand that the diagnosis of a fetal heart condition can be scary and affects the whole family. Our services to support you include counseling, parent education and community resource referrals.

Our doctors are innovators in the field of fetal cardiac care, continually working to develop new and better techniques for helping women have healthier babies. Through our educational outreach program, we help the broader community by sharing these best practices with other physicians.

With clinics throughout the Bay Area, we can provide rapid access to fetal cardiac care. A cardiologist is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for consultations or emergency referrals.
