Dealing with health insurance can be confusing. If you have questions about how your health insurance policy works or what it covers, please contact your insurance representative.

Be sure to bring your child's insurance card with you to all appointments at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals. Your insurance company may require prior authorization for your child to be seen by a UCSF doctor. If so, have your child's primary care doctor or insurance company fax this authorization to the office of the UCSF doctor they'll be seeing, and bring a copy to the appointment to make sure you aren’t billed for covered medical services. We may call you for insurance or authorization information before your appointment.

If your insurance requires a co-payment for an office visit, you'll be asked to pay this amount when you check in. If the visit isn't covered by your insurance, you'll be asked to pay the full cost of the appointment on arrival.
